Coyote trapping closed season

Heard the coyote debate was tabled. Why would anyone support a closed season for coyotes?
I know our cows and the baby calves like the open season!

Mood: Optimistic about OSTA

Because coyotes are a natural resource that is supposed to be managed by the ODOW. Collateral damage is a huge issue because of people trapping coyotes after deer season, who do not need a fur taker permit let alone the basic trapper education course to do so, and it is a future public relations disaster in the making, the future cost when it hits the Ohio ballot box will be about ten million to try and beat it, which may also include a total trapping ban on the same bill.

Every state bordering Ohio has a coyote trapping season that runs concurrent with their fox trapping with the exception of Indiana, their coyote trapping extends into March. I have asked people in ag to get numbers together to show that Ohio has a drastically reduced livestock depredation than the bordering states and have yet to see it.

A popular misconception about the proposal was that it would close all coyote trapping, which is completely false, it would only have been a fur season, would not have impacted ag in any way.

And to those that say there is nothing to worry about, the same day ODOW delayed the proposal the chatter from HSUS about banning coyote contests went public, they had already been in discussions with ODOW staff raising their concern well before that.
