Future OSTA Sites

Reading the posts on the Portage County grounds for this years convention and the problems associated with them. I talked to the Darke County Fair folks (couple fair board members) and asked about prices for grounds rental. Does anyone know what we pay for rental prices to the various places. Can be done over PM's if needed.

Some other sites to consider.... Ashland, Knox county both have a very nice facility. Wayne does as well, but that is too close to their fair week in September.

Richland is good as well. They have hosted the NTA there a couple of times.

Dave, talk to Harry, he can pretty well give you the run down. Many grounds are ruled out because of the fair dates, others because of location. Ideally (in my mind) take the I-76/US 224 on the north, I-70 on the south, I-77 on the east and I-75 on the west, and go to each corner of the box that makes. If we had four grounds, one in the vicinity of each corner that would be about as good as it gets.

Keith we are about 35 miles north from that Southwest intersection of 70 and 75 would that be close enough. Talked with Harry and he gave some input. Also gave me the lowdown on this years site kinda stinks with that kind of neighbors.

We have looked at Darke, Harry got a lot of information on it for the national, I think for the state cost might have been an issue if I remember correctly.

those of you reading this keep it in mind when your at fairgrounds around the state .

if you've been to one osta convention , that should give you some idea of whats required .

were always looking for potencial new sites but keep in mind what keith said .

we try not to go too far into a corner of the state but sometimes its unavoidable , we simply have to use what we find or is available.

Would it possible to find a nice fairgrounds, centrally located in the state and enter into a multi year contract with them?

dan , for many years the osta had there conventions at the hartford fairgrounds near croton , ohio . its a private fairgrounds just east of what would be close to central ohio . we out grew it along time ago .

someone did tell me in the last year or 2 that it had been upgraded alot, new and bigger buildings , etc. might be worth looking into .

i like the idea dan , its been brought up before.

mike, theres not been one there that i know of , the price of it i would think would be too much but who knows it might be affordable . lots of gun shows held on those grounds .it might be worth looking into again .

The idea of a central location surfaces repeatedly. years ago a building fund was established, with X dollars from each life membership going into it,. intending to someday buy a place. At the time it was an admirable goal, with the way things are today, even if we bought ground, and could afford to put up buildings (can you say $500,000.00 bare minimum) once we had the property it would have to be managed for rental income just to cover taxes and insurance. We do still hear this from members from time to time. In my opinion, the problem with a long term location would be the eventual "burnout" of your local support group. There are dedicated members that go and help every year no matter where the location, but we also have a strong contingent of are local help at each convention, these guys that are there when it's close to home aren't going to last if they are called on every year. In the same line, the auction is a big fundraiser that we need desperately and we have the same situation with bidders at the auction. Lastly, we are a state wide organization, and to present ourself as such, and to the trappers of the state, we need to keep it moving.

Yes the rotation of sites is the best for all involved, road trips are great, sometimes can get to long ones sometimes got to pass on the short ones. Gonna make it this year though a longer trip this year, but found the time for that weekend . plus great saturday demo line up.
